Arizona State and Visitor Information |
| |
| Arizona is one of the four corners states, is situated in the southwestern region of
United States. The state is bordered by Utah in the North, New Mexico (East), and Sonora,
and Baja California states of Mexico in the South, and across the Colorado River, Nevada
and Phoenix. Tucson the second largest city, is followed by four Phoenix-area cities of
Mesa, Glendale, Chandler, and Scottsdale. |
| |
| Admitted to the Union on February 14, 1912 Arizona was the 48th and last of the
contiguous states to be granted statehood. Noted for its desert climate, dry hot summers,
and temperate winters, Arizona also encompasses the high country in the north featuring
pine forests, mountain ranges, and cooler weather than the lower deserts. |

The Grand Canyon State is a strange blend of the changeless past and the
volatile present. On lonely mesa tops high above the plains are Native American villages
where ancient rituals are still observed, their origins lost in the mists of time. The
modern-day counterparts of tribal medicine men, Lowell Observatory scientists, use the
most advanced techniques to map the contours of the moon's surface. |

| Arizona has been nicknamed the Grand Canyon State. Its state
flower is the saguaro cactus and its truly unique Arizona trout is the only fish of its
kind in the entire world. The state operates on Mountain Standard Time all year round.
Only the Navajo reservation acknowledges Daylight Savings Time. There are, in fact, more
than fourteen Indian tribes on twenty reservations here. You might find these two
architectural items to be of interest: the amount of copper on the roof of the Arizona
Capitol building is equivalent to 4,800,000 pennies; and the original London Bridge was
shipped stone-by-stone from England and reconstructed in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, which
is often known for its spring break activities. The best way to experience the beauty of
Arizona is with a stay at an Arizona bed and breakfast, country inns, historic
hotels, mountain lodges, urban inns, guesthouses and B&B homestays. |
| |
| Travelers to Arizona can catch a basketball game between arch rivals University of
Arizona and Arizona State University. Sports enthusiasts may want to see a baseball or
football as Arizona is also home to the World Series winning Arizona Diamondbacks as well
as the NFL Arizona Cardinals. |
| |
| Whether you come for a business trip, a weekend getaway or escape for a longer vacation,
Arizona offers a memorable stay in any one of her Arizona bed and breakfasts. |
