Our charming New England Victorian Salt Box by the sea, built in 1868, delivers the historic charm of the last century in conjunction with modern amenities.
The Headlands Inn is located in the Historic Village of Mendocino. The Inn is just 1 block to Mendocino shopping, galleries and museums, 1-1/2 blocks to the beach, and walking distance to several superb restaurants.
George Switzer purchased the house in 1893 and moved it to the present location on the corner of Howard and Albion Streets. It was transported by horses pulling the house over logs which were used as rollers. More recently the house was known as The Bessie Strauss House. Bessie and her husband, John, bought the house in 1924 and resided here until 1979.
Restoration of The Headlands Inn has preserved the historic charm of the last century while adding the comforts of the present.

What does Mendocino offer? Whatever you may seek! It is a place to refresh, to renew, and to rekindle relationships. It is a place of unsurpassed natural beauty - rugged coastline with unmarred expanses of surging sea and sky and spectacular sunsets, together with redwood forests and fresh exhilarating air. It is a place to enjoy history, art, theater, dance, antiques, fine galleries and shops, superb restaurants, horseback riding, tennis, golf, bicycling, canoeing, hiking, jogging, beachcombing, whale watching, and yes, even train riding. It can also be a place to do absolutely nothing; where one can seek solitude and inner peace.
