High Meadow
|
|
Originally constructed in Branford, CT in 1742, High
Meadow Bed and Breakfast was first known as the Jonathan Towner Half Way
Tavern.
The Jonathan Towner Half Way Tavern was a travelers stop half way between New York &
Boston on the then Boston Post Road, now U.S. Rte 1.
In 1975 the house was moved and reconstructed to current site, then part of High Meadow
Farm, in Wallingford, CT. Once again, this historic house welcomes travelers as High Meadow Bed & Breakfast.
This classic colonial house, built in 1742, can accomodate two parties in the upstair front rooms. The house is post and beam contruction with a center chimney. Entering the front door by the large brownstone steps, the small front hall leads directly upstairs to the guest rooms.
|
The two quest rooms are upstairs on either side of the eight foot square center chimney. Both bedrooms have one wall of feather edge pine paneling and three small-paned windows giving lots of light and overlooking the meadows for which High Meadow was named. The paneling, beam casings for the corner posts and the trim are painted blue. |
Breakfast is served in the dinning room downstairs which has a wall of raised paneling, a fireplace, corner cupboard and an 18th century Rhode Island highboy.
Breakfasts are served until 9 AM.
As innkeepers we value our
privacy and yours.
We live in the back of the house on the ground floor, using a side entrance.
Thus we are available for any services but allow
privacy to our guests.
