House of 1833
|
||||||||||||||||||
|
Built in 1833 by local banker Elias Brown, this early 19th century Greek Revival Mansion and national landmark is a masterpiece of its period; located on three beautifully wooded and landscaped acres in the village of Old Mystic. This architectural gem is but a short distance from Exit 90 (Mystic) off Int. 95. |
The House of 1833 was converted to a bed and breakfast in 1994 with five luxurious guest suites; so close to all the excitement and activities of Southeastern Connecticut and yet a true retreat, where time seems suspended...a place of romance &timeless grace.
The home features two formal parlors; the front parlor with a Belgian Marble fireplace and a second parlor with black marble mantel detailing and a 19th century crystal chandelier. These spectacular rooms are furnished in the 'period' and are here for our guests to enjoy, as well as our signature chocolate chip cookies..."the stuff dreams are made of".
Potted palms and ferns and the effusive and singular beauty of orchids from the owner's own private collection create an interior 'natural' landscape. With the robust color of fresh cut blooms, one discovers a beautiful rhythm with the mansion's woodwork and period moldings.
Our five guest rooms are 'suite' format with lovely sitting areas, working fireplaces, and monumental 19th century queen or king size beds; all with full bath. Some rooms include private porches or two person whirlpool/Jacuzzi hot tubs. A sense of romance prevails throughout these five distinctive suites. |

About Some of our Guest Rooms |
||
The Oak Room (pictured above) is one of our largest suites. With its Chinese red and mauve flower theme, it features a 19th century Victorian queen size bed and one of the loveliest sitting areas of the Inn, with its turn of the century settee, so perfect for a cozy evening in front of the fireplace. |
For a uniquely romantic experience, the Peach Room is a treat. This room features an enormous 19th century hand carved Chinese canopy bed, old library and has wonderful moldings and built-in book cases. Particularly romantic is the large private bath that houses a walk-in 'shower room'...and opens up into a double person whirlpool/Jacuzzi hot tub. |
The Veranda
Room features an oversized 19th century bronze and tole king size bed from
Paris, and the "Ultimate in Romance"... an in room two person whirlpool hot tub,
and intimate sitting area with grape carved Victorian settee, and private porch
overlooking the pool and grounds. |
The Ivy Room is a wonderfully sunny cheerful corner room with four large windows facing south and west, giving guests a glorious view of the Inn's well kept grounds. This room features an elaborate burl/walnut Victorian queen size bed, Art Nouveau armoire and beautiful sitting area. |
The Victorian Suite is a Victorian 'high style'...one bedroom, three room suite...sits within walking distance of the downtown business district and the Mystic River surrounded by nearly two acres of mature beech, fir trees and accent magnolias. With the emphasis on comfort and that luxurious feeling of being pampered and 'spoiled', you can make this your private executive retreat. |
The Cupola Room is often thought of as our 'romantic getaway' suite, with its Empire high-back mahogony canopy queen size bed; its yards and yards of purple and mauve colored fabric descending around the bed...creating a unique and private space. |
Coffee and the day's newspaper are ready each morning at 7:30am.
We serve a full 'New England country gourmet candlelight breakfast' in our period dining room starting at 8 am.
Other amenities at the House of 1833 include a beautifully landscaped swimming pool, a newly constructed Har-Tru tennis court and six new 18-speed bicycles. Guests are invited to relax by the pool, enjoy a game of tennis or tour the countryside; compliments of the Inn.
