About Our Town:
The district was designated a Chicago Landmark for its architectural and
historical significance. It showcases one of the citys finest remaining 19th Century
neighborhood streetscapes. The cross-section of styles includes pressed-metal decoration,
cornices, bays and corner turrets.
The intermix of residential and retail structures, the lighting, design and parks, all
tell an evolving story of urban life and vibrancy that a beautifully-developed and
rightly-exploited neighborhood can impart to the flourishing international city that is Chicago.
Much of the neighborhood rose during the post-Great Chicago Fire
construction boom that began in the spring of 1872. The Lincoln Park Guest
House was erected in 1889 but retains a scant few hand-carved wooden Victorian
trim pieces on the exterior. The interior is entirely re-built with no hint of earlier
decades.
