Coveside
|
|
Coveside Bed & Breakfast sits on
five secluded acres on a rocky
cove, near the village of Five Islands, in Georgetown, Maine.
Every room has a water view, whether in the main house of the bed and breakfast or the Cottage Guest House. In addition to lobster boats, neighbors on the cove include gulls, herons, osprey, even an occasional seal or moose. Yet Bath, Boothbay, Wiscasset, and the bustle of mid-coast Maine's Route 1 are within easy reach.
You can spend your days actively or relaxed. Start with a gourmet breakfast on the terrace overlooking a special Maine coastal view; then take the canoe for a picnic at nearby Turnip Island or for lunch at one of nearby lobster wharfs. Sunbathe on the dock or at Mile Beach at Reid State Park. Stroll along the shore through nearby nature preserves or take our bicycles to explore the uncrowded byways of Georgetown. Venture further afield to explore some of mid-coast Maine's favorite destinations -- Camden, Boothbay Harbor, or Freeport; or just pass the time away on the terrace, watching the boats in Sheepscot Bay.
There are four guest rooms in the main house and three rooms in the adjacent guest cottage. Each room has a private bath and a peaceful water view down the lawn or through the trees to Gotts Cove and, beyond, to Sheepscot Bay All rooms and public areas are tastefully furnished in a style reminiscent of the Maine seaside summer cottages in the early years of the century. |

Of the rooms in the main house, Marty's room is the most spacious, with a queen bed, fireplace sitting area, and whirlpool spa tub; it is furnished in antiques and cherry furniture in the "arts and crafts" style. Alice's room, also upstairs, is a roomy queen-bedded room furnished in wicker. Bart's room is downstairs, with queen bed, oak mission-style furniture, and a private porch overlooking the cove. Tom's room is an upstairs room with a queen-sized bed and cheerful Maine cottage furniture. It is somewhat smaller than the other rooms and has no sitting area.
The Cottage |
| The cottage, across the courtyard from the main house, contains three private guest rooms, a guest lounge with fireplace and wet bar, and a screened porch overlooking the cove. Each of the rooms in the guest house has a private deck overlooking the cove, sitting areas, and a fireplace. There are two rooms upstairs and both are quite spacious. The downstairs room is somewhat smaller, but has the same amenities. |

Mid-coast Maine residents regard Georgetown as an undiscovered jewel. An island connected to the mainland by bridges, Georgetown is sprinkled with fishing villages and tiny resort communities that are as unspoiled as the island's variegated landscape of hills and rocks, beaches and waterways.
Activities |
|
The village of Five Islands is an easy walk or bike ride
from Coveside Bed and Breakfast; it is a picturesque fishing
village with shingled houses tumbling down a hillside to a harbor dotted with boats and
islands. The major attraction is the town wharf, where fresh-cooked lobsters,
clams, and other hearty fare can be enjoyed on picnic tables overlooking the
harbor. Just across our cove is Lisa's, another lobster wharf that can
easily be reached by canoe from our dock. And don't forget to visit Georgetown
Pottery.
In nearby Bath there are additional restaurants, as well as the Maine
Maritime Museum, the Chocolate Church Center for the Arts, and a
variety of shops, art galleries, and opportunities to stroll along the
waterfront or Washington Avenue, an historic district lined with
magnificent Georgian and Victorian homes.
