Much of
the American heritage is embodied in Massachusetts. The Mayflower colonists who
reached Plymouth in December 1620 "sounded" (in the words of Governor William
Bradford) "ye harbor and found it fitt for shipping; and marched into ye land, &
found diverse cornfields, & little running brooks, a place fitt for
situation." These Pilgrim leaders were refugees from religious persecution that
had already driven them to another alien land. The English-speaking colony they founded
became the New World's hub of liberty and culture, its cradle of commerce and industry.
Massachusetts is an excellent travel destination, noted for many of its historical sites
as well as diverse regional areas. The eastern Massachusetts Bay area of the state from
Gloucester to Plymouth is very metropolitan, with Boston at its hub. Here you can find
great cooking, fresh seafood, and an intense concentration of colleges and
universities. To the south of Boston is Cape Cod, a tremendously popular vacation
spot and home to the Kennedy family, one of America's more influential political families.
Cape Cod National Seashore, Marthas Vineyard, and Nantucket evoke a beach
getaway with fun in the sun and surf. Stay at a waterfront resort and spa or elegant
hotel. West of Boston you'll find the Blackstone Valley National Corridor, a vast expanse
of rolling hills and small towns, as well as some of the most unique vineyards in the East
Coast Come to Massachusetts where our lodging choices range from intimate B&Bs
to romantic rustic inns, so go ahead and find accommodations that are right for you. |
