New to coastal Maine lodging is the historic 18th century house at Blue Skye Farm Bed and Breakfast, in Waldoboro, Maine.

Minutes from the fabulous Maine coastline and within easy reach of Portland, Freeport, Boothbay Harbor and Pemaquid to the south and Belfast, Camden, Rockport and Rockland to the north, this restful countryside B&B retreat is the perfect accommodation for those touring Midcoast Maine wanting to enjoy the activities on offer here:

Built in 1775 by Abijah Waterman, Blue Skye Farm is now owned by an English/American couple, Jan and Peter Davidson, who have converted it to a small bed and breakfast inn.

There are 2 bedrooms on the ground floor. They share a large bathroom with an antique clawfoot tub and shower.

There are 3 bedrooms on the second floor. Each has its own bathroom.

The age of this historic house is apparent in the original wall stencils in the entrance hall and stairway by Moses Eaton, whose stencils are now owned by The Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities, and in reminders of another age like the bread oven in the fireplace and the Indian Shutters.

There are three Common Rooms at Blue Skye.
  • The Sitting Room, with its large windows with beautiful views over extensive gardens to the south and west, catches the sun all day, and in the evening, glows from the light of the fireplace. There are plenty of games and an extensive library of books and music to draw on for entertainment.
  • The Dining Room, where made-to-order breakfast is served, in the evening can become the setting for games and conversation or an anniversary dinner party in front of the fire and the old piano, lovingly transported across the Atlantic from the owners' home in England, invites you to play.
  • Guests are invited to use the large country kitchen to prepare their evening meals. The Kitchen table has hosted quite a few lobster dinners and midnight snacks and is, as in most homes, the heart of the house where people instinctively gather together.

Fall leaves transform Blue Skye to an autumn postcard and come Spring, the lawns and gardens with their sweeping views, giant oaks and hidden walks, offer numerous possibilities for outdoor events such as wedding parties, artists' groups and business or family parties.

There are 100 acres of tracked woodland for hiking, cross country skiing, bird watching or just strolling and an abundance of wildlife (beaver, muskrat, deer, moose, coyote), birds and waterfowl. These, combined with the clarity of air and light, make Blue Skye Farm a water colorist’s dream and a perfect retreat between sightseeing trips.
