Medayto Cottage was built by my grandfather, John M. Spicer, founder of the City, in 1895. It was built as a seasonal home where friends and family visited often.

The Spicer Castle has managed to survive with much of its original furnishings while most similar old lake homes are long gone.

Certainly the ravages of weather and time have taken their toll, but they have been overcome by a love of this home, which is tucked into the woods and fronted by 600 feet of lakeshore.

Choose from eighteen guestrooms—all distinctively decorated. The Main Inn has eight guest quarters. There are also four guest houses with one to four accommodations per house at our Minnesota Inn.

Breakfast of juice, fresh fruit, homemade muffins, coffeecake, a main entree and our special coffee is included in the room rate and served at 9 a.m.
Coffee and tea are available at 7:30 am.
Special dietary requirements are met with advance notice.

Area Attractions

There are numerous Antique, Craft and Speciatly Shops nearby, along with Theaters and Area Museums. For the Nature Lover, there are groomed hiking , biking (seasonal) trails.

Interpretative Center at nearby Sibley State Park. Fishing, boating (seasonal), skiing, swimming and sunbathing (seasonal) and bike rentals are all available. The paved DNR Glacial Lakes Trail is a beautiful scenic 26 mile route meandering through woods, prairies and streams.

It is a wonderful place for riding bikes, rollerblading, walking and running (seasonal); snowmobiling and cross country skiing (seasonal). There are four golf courses in the area.   • Refrigerator, Microwave, Coffeemaker available in Raymond's Cabin, John's Cottage, Curry Room and Christopher room. There is a small refrigerator on main floor of Castle for guest use

 

Policies
  • Guestrooms are open daily from June through August and on weekends throughout the rest of the year.
  • Luncheon and Dinner Parties can be scheduled throughout the year.
  • Rates are for two guests per room per night, sales tax will be added.
  • Guests are welcome to bring alcoholic beverages for moderate use.
  • To insure your reservation we require a deposit of 25% of 1 night's room rate to guarantee your reservation.
  • Group reservations of 4 or more rooms require a deposit of 50% of 1 night's room rate to guarantee your reservation.
  • Guest tariffs are paid following breakfast on your day of departure.
  • For a refund on cancellations we require a $15 processing fee per room with a four day (96 hour) notice, 30 day notice for 3 or more room reservations.
  • After that time you will be charged for the room.
  • Check-In: Begins at 4 PM. If you expect to arrive after 8 PM., please let us know.
  • Check-Out: 12 Noon.
  • Complimentary "Tea" is served from 4:30 to 5:30 PM.
  • Rates are subject to change. No smoking.
  • To provide a getaway for our guests, children and pets are not allowed.
