| Dobson House sits on a hill at 7000 feet overlooking the Rio Grande Gorge, 13 miles north of Taos. From the circular common room you can see the beautiful sage desert and mountains of northern New Mexico in all directions. |
Manby Hot Springs, where the old stage line crossed the river, is a short walk down into the gorge. Hot air balloons take off a mile south on the rim; white water rafts put in a mile north. In between, you can fish at the bottom of the 350 foot gorge.
| The house is a 6,000 square foot solar adobe with natural adobe walls and stone floors. It is furnished in a comfortable southwestern style, and features the owners' contemporary art collection. Breakfast is served overlooking the gorge in the 1600 square foot common room, which is circular and surrounded by glass. Guests are welcome anytime in the common room - it's great for bird watching or just looking at the mountains. There's even a baby grand you are welcome to play. |

"Inside, the house has the feel of a traditional New Mexico adobe structure with curving walls, a red sandstone floor and handmade tiles" (Carol Roark, The Dallas Morning News, July 13, 1997). The common room at the upper level is circular with picture windows for 270 degrees. Views are spectacular with mountain peaks visible in all directions and the gorge right in front. Ravens and hawks glide by to sail out over the river 500 feet below.
The guest suites are "...reached by descending a dramatic, spacious, hand crafted staircase, flanked by fine artwork and imbedded with tiles..." (Doris Kennedy, The Denver Post, May 4, 1997).

The Inn has two luxurious guest suites, furnished in Southwestern style. Each has a private bath and separate sitting and sleeping areas. The rooms feature creamy beige adobe walls, ceiling vigas, gas or wood stove for back-up heat and large tiled showers. |
We serve a full breakfast and refreshments in the afternoon. Wake up to
hot coffee or tea outside your door. Begin your day with juice, fresh fruit, Mexican baked
eggs served with chicken apple sausage and Texas pecan biscuits or corn cakes with
applewood smoked bacon. Fresh rhubarb rolls, peach muffins, sweet potato pone, and ricotta
cheese pancakes are more of the cook's specialties. Afternoon refreshments include local
goat cheeses, focaccia, fresh fruit and assorted beverages. With prior notice, we'll serve
you a delicious
supper - ask about the menu and prices.
