~ West Side ~
Celebrity apartments, monied families in historic brownstones, and, of
course, Central Park, the Upper West Side is one of the most expensive
and affluent addresses in New York, and, therefore, the world.
Bordered by 59th St. to the South, Cathedral Parkway to the North, it's here that gal-pals
Gwynneth and Winnona are spotted in the trendy martini bars, and Madonna
runs in the park.
To visitors, the West Side means the American Museum of
Natural History, the Children's Museum, and the numerous cultural and
musical events at the Lincoln Center. And let's not forget
Central Park, where locals and visitors alike enjoy jogging, horse
riding, picnics and all kinds of sports activities, as well as summer concerts, the park
zoo and more.
Manhattan's Upper West Side is rich in history, culture and urban life. Lincoln Center is the home of 12 independent arts companies including the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Ballet an the New York Philharmonic. Visit the American Museum of Natural History, and the new state-of-the-art Rose Center for Earth and Space. The New York Historical Society on Central Park West is the city's oldest museum and one of the most distinguished research libraries in the country. The library offers rare and unique materials that tell the story of both New York and American history. Don't miss the fabulous museum gift shop!
In the Lincoln Square neighborhood is the
renowned Cafe des Artists restaurant as well as Tavern
on the Green in Central Park. While in the Park,
visit "Strawberry Fields" dedicated to the memory of Beatle
John Lennon ~ stroll the Great Lawn or
take a ride on the Carousel.
Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues are home to numerous restaurants and
outdoor cafes. Every weekend visit the Green Flea Market on 77th
Street for bargains and treasures galore.
Don't forget to stop at Zabar's, Citarella or Balducci's
on the way home for that quintessential New York culinary experience!
