Inn at Herr
Ridge is where history meets hospitality.
The same year that Napoleon fought the Battle of Waterloo, Thomas
Sweeney built this structure in
Cumberland Township, Pennsylvania, operating it as a tavern and
"Publick Houe...for travelers and
strangers," who required sojourn along the turnpike from
Gettysburg to Chambersburg.
Originally built as a Publick House, this 1815 Federal-style building became the site of the first Confederate stand and hospital during the Civil War. Listed in the National Register, the inn's 19th-century heritage and glory has now been faithfully restored, and a new wing added.
Enjoy a wonderful country breakfast in the restaurant, as well as afternoon tea and snacks. Stroll the landscaped grounds amidst two watergarden ponds. Banquet and meeting facilities are also located on the premises. Enjoy fine American cuisine in the five dining areas as well as the lounge.
Enjoy fine American Cuisine in the Inn at Herr Ridge Restaurant from 11AM to 9PM, Monday through Saturday, and from 5PM to 9PM on Sunday. Reservations are recommended. The original mainhouse features five dining areas that accommodate twenty to thirty-five guests in each room.
Two commons rooms overlook the historic area from Peace Light to Little Round Top. Each of the romantic suites feature a fireplace, most offer double Jacuzzis. The Lodge Room is located in the new section of the building and is our largest. The adjacent Annex provides five rooms with Jacuzzi's, fireplaces and private decks |
