| Virginia State and Visitor Information |
As the first of the 13 original colonies, Virginia continued to play a dominant role in the leadership of the country. During the American Revolution it contributed such dedicated statesmen as George Washington, Patrick Henry, George Rogers Clark, Light-Horse Harry Lee, and Thomas Jefferson to the cause of freedom. After independence was achieved, the state earned the nickname Mother of Presidents because of the outstanding number of Virginians who were chosen for the nation's highest office. With such extremes as the waves of the Atlantic Ocean to the Blue Ridge Mountains, Virginia is a study in contrasts. "Virginia Is For Lovers" is the enigmatic motto of the Virginia tourism council. In the state of Virginia finding a bed and breakfast inn, farm B&B, homestay bed and breakfast, historic hotel, country inn or mountain lodge, or urban inn is easy. |
In the Northern part of the state there are towns that are noted for their history as well as they are known for being horse country. Tidewater is home to Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown, and Virginia Beach. The Eastern Shore reaches out into the Chesapeake Bay from Maryland. The Shenandoah Valley and Mountains are where Washingtonians go to cool off. Virginia's spa country is located in the Allegheny Mountain Valley towns of Warm Springs, Hot Springs, and White Sulphur Springs, along the West Virginia border. Stay at a VA bed and breakfast when you make your travel plans. |
