![]() |
La Vista Plantation is located in the lush Spotsylvania County country-side just outside the historic city of Fredericksburg, Virginia. In the 1860's this quiet rural community became the backdrop for some of the fiercest fighting of the American Civil War. Listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register of Historic Places. La Vista is one of the plantations of the Guinea Station Road featured on the Lee vs. Grant Civil War Trail. The property is also on the East Coast Bicycle Trail. |
The house reflects the classical revival style with high ceilings, white heart of pine
floors, acorn and oakleaf moldings and two-story front portico.
The ten acre
grounds present a fine balance of mature trees, flowering shrubs, pastures, woods,
gardens and a pond stocked with bass and sunfish. Guests may choose and cut a fresh
sheared Christmas Tree in season. For the bird watcher, many species are residents
here and still more are seasonal visitors. La Vista is the perfect spot for rest
and relaxation.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Schiesser purchased the house and ten acres in 1983. Ed is now Retired as exhibits chief at the Hirschhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. His wife, Michele, is a former middle school social studies teacher, and historic preservation activist. After spending the 1970's restoring an old house in the historic district of Hyattsville, Maryland, in 1983 the Schiesser's went looking for another project. They found it in La Vista Plantation. |
