West Virginia State and Visitor Information

Many tourists come to West Virginia's mountain resorts. The state's numerous mineral springs have attracted visitors since the days of George Washington.  Among the better known are Berkeley Springs and White Sulphur Springs. Hunting, skiing, whitewater rafting, and fishing are popular sports.  West Virginia's state parks attract more than a million visitors a year. The larger cities have fine recreational areas such as Wheeling's Oglebay Park and Charleston's Coonskin Park. Pipestem State Park has an amphitheater, craft center, and country store.
A West Virginia country inn or farm bed and breakfast captures the warmth and charm of the state in a way that no urban hotel can.The friendly and warm hospitality you'll find at West Virginia's bed and breakfasts, homestay B&Bs, and country inns and lodges are made even nicer by their affordable rates.

Just driving around backwoods West Virginia, with its hills and creeks and rivers and forests and mountaintop vistas, is a wonderful experience in and of itself. There are lots of out-of-the-way wonders to be discovered, and quite a few scenic routes, including the Coal Heritage Trail from Bluefield to Beckley, the Midland Trail along route 60 from Huntington to White Sulphur Springs, and the Highland Scenic Highway from Richwood to north of Marlinton. West Virginia University in Morgantown has museums, an arboretum, and a loyal football following. Paranormal buffs might enjoy visiting Point Pleasant, site of the famous Mothman sightings in the 1960s. There's a Mothman festival every September. Exhilarate in the lasting beauty and natural wonder scattered throughout West Virginia.   West Virginia's spectacular mountains, swirling rivers, and scenic countryside offer a welcome change of pace from the rush of everyday life. Here, too, you'll find friendly cities full of fun and nightlife. From wild to mild, from a five-star resort to rustic retreats, West Virginia truly has something for everyone.
