The General Lewis Inn and Restaurant is a unique blend of the old and new, created and operated by the same family since 1928.

Located in West Virginia's beautiful Greenbrier Valley, the Inn is surrounded by broad lawns, fragrant flower gardens and a lily pond, all under a lush canopy of trees.  Guests can relax in rocking chairs on the long shaded veranda and are just a short walk from downtown Lewisburg's many antique shops, The Greenbrier Valley Theatre and Carnegie Hall. Our dinning room offers home cooked meals in the atmosphere of another time. Here the traveler may step into the past and enjoy the sensation of coming home.

The General Lewis Inn, an historic West Virginia country inn and restaurant, in Lewisburg, WV, is the ideal setting for your romantic weekend getaway, adventure on crystal blue water or trip back into time in the beautiful Greenbrier Valley of West Virginia.

Did you hear the sound of cannon fire? Oh, we didn’t mention that the General Lewis is located on the site of an 1862 Civil War Battle. Civil War and Revolutionary history lives around every corner of our historically preserved town.

Two bedrooms and two two-bedroom suites overlooking the garden are part of the original home.

All have original mantles. Every room in the Inn is furnished with historic antiques, products of the culture and craftsmanship of early settlers.

The dining room is on the first floor of the original 1834 home. The present doorways from the lobby were once windows, while the original front door now serves as the main Inn entrance. The large, hand hewn beams in the dining room and lobby were part of the quarters for slaves. Dinner specialties include fried chicken, mountain trout, country ham, grilled pork chops and steak accompanied by hot homemade breads and desserts. Reservations are suggested for dinner and holidays. We serve all legal beverages and accept American Express, Visa and MasterCard. There is no smoking throughout the Inn.

Dining at the General Lewis features the finest menu in the area. We highly recommend the West Virginia Rainbow Trout…choose a wonderful wine from our selective wine list or any beverage you happen to desire. We’re fully stocked for your arrival.

Weddings and Special Events

The Historic General Lewis Inn offers a unique site for special celebrations. Weddings, anniversaries, reunions, rehearsal dinners, bridal showers can all be hosted here in our lovely Gardens, or in our dining room. Because each event is unique to the guest, we have not created packages to choose from. Instead, we work with clients to accommodate their plans within our capacities. Our Gardens and staff can host groups up to 150 people, and provide food and beverages from our chefs’ kitchen and extensive experience. Our dining room seats 50 people, with overflow in the adjacent living room. Our traditional setting has graced many events from 15 to 150 guests.

State parks and national forests offer walks through ferns, flowers, rhododendron and mountain laurel. Area golf courses skirt both mountains and streams. For the history buffs, Lewisburg offers sites associated with both the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. Gracious homes, spanning the years with their varied architecture in soft red brick or frame, many with large porches reminiscent of a more leisurely life, can be seen by walking along the tree-lined streets.

We invite you to come relax by the fire, step into the past and enjoy
the sensation of coming home.
